FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Children & Family Programs Continue in Maple Valley

Thanks to an outpouring of support from the community, many of the Children and Family programs recently suspended by the Greater Maple Valley Community Center will continue into the future. “I’m really heartened by the number of people and groups who have stepped up to make sure that these programs don’t disappear,” said Mark Pursley, the Executive Director of the Community Center. “Their structure may be modified but the important thing is that they will carry on.

The Children and Family program was suspended due to a lack of dedicated operating funds at the Community Center. It was announced on October 1st that the staffing position assigned to these programs was to be eliminated on November 1st, leaving the programs without a person to coordinate the activities. Within the span of a month many individuals and organizations rallied to ensure that the programs would continue.

Toddler Time, an early learning experience for youth up to five years old, will be continued at two locations. The newly formed Maple Valley Family Circle, comprised of parent volunteers, will run the program at the Community Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 11:30am. This group will also sponsor the popular Family Night activities once a month. The group can be contacted at mvfamilycircle@gmail.com.

Maple Valley Presbyterian Church is continuing to offer the Toddler Time program at their facility on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30am to 11:30am. Faye Morley is coordinating this program and can be reached at (425) 432-4399 or at FMorley@mvpc.net. The church will also coordinate the Preschool Resource Fair on January 23, 2014 at the Community Center.

Longstanding parent organized associations such as the Home School Support Group, Friends ‘N Fun, the Autism Support Group and Foster Parent Connections will continue to meet at the Community Center on their regular days and times.

Popular special events such as the Community Egg Hunt, Trick or Trucks, the Clothing Exchange and the Safe Sitter Program will tentatively be held at the Community Center but will be hosted by the Girl Scouts, local churches and other interested volunteers. Please contact the Greater Maple Valley Community Center at (425) 432-1272 for more information on any of these programs and activities.
