Greater Maple Valley Community Center

Maple Valley’s young people are wired! Do their parents know how to connect?

On October 11, 2007 from 7- 9 pm at GMVCC Communities That Care will host a special Parent Symposium that will focus on the millennial generation and the possibilities and pitfalls that influence these “digital natives”.  Our presenters are local experts who will speak to the educational and social changes that impact this generation of young people born after 1982.

Mike Maryanski, Superintendent of Tahoma School District, will help parents to understand how the school system is attempting to respond to the changing educational needs and requirements of this generation.

Andrew Phillips, Youth Pastor and IT Director at Real Life Church in Maple Valley, is a highly sought after speaker.  His desire is to teach parents about how kids use the internet today and how to set in place safeguards for keeping their children safe while they are online.

Jeremy Johnson is a modern day motivator and communication expert, as well as a local father with two children in Tahoma schools.  He uses wit and wisdom to present thought provoking and relevant information to his audience.  Jeremy’s topic will be sexuality in the millennial generation.  We invite you to check out Jeremy’s website.

Karen Brewer is one of the founding members of Maple Valley Communities That Care, and is currently serving as interim director.   She has long been an advocate for promoting a healthy community in which to raise our children.  Karen will help parents to understand how we can decrease risk factors in the lives of our children, along with promoting protective factors that will help our children to live healthy, happy lives.

The speakers will take questions from the audience during the panel discussion portion of the evening.  Crystal Hess, technology teacher at Tahoma Senior High School, and one or two students from TSHS will join the panel to help answer your questions.

Please join your friends and neighbors for this informative and interactive evening.
