Youth Council Leadership Retreat
Become a leader in your community!
Youth Council members plan activities, events and programs to specifically meet the needs of youth and their community at large. Students address a variety of topics, including diversity, leadership, dating violence, drug and alcohol abuse, teen suicide, and other social and academic pressures through the development of advocacy, peer support, prevention and activity programs.
Teens will travel to Camp Berachah to plan these programs for the youth in their own community. For more information about this program please contact: Kristiane at 425-432-1272 or Kristiane.

Battle of the Bands
Punk rockers, Ska bands and more take to the stage this fall! Whether you’re a high school student who digs the local music scene or in a band yourself, this is one event you won’t want to miss! This year’s line-up includes:
Prom Promise
Youth Council members educate 4th and 5th grade students in each of the elementary schools about the unhealthy choices some teenagers make by using drugs and alcohol.
The elementary students then write letters asking each senior to promise to stay safe and have fun at Prom without drinking or using drugs. Last year over 550 Tahoma students signed the Prom Promise pledge and many wrote back thanking the younger students for their concern. Since its inception 8 years ago, no participating Tahoma student has been involved in a vehicle fatality while under the influence on prom weekend.

Teen Concerts at GMVCC Raise Funds for Local and International Causes
On Friday, May 18th, and Saturday, May 19th, great need was answered by great music in concerts that together were attended by over 250 local youth and raised over $900.
Sponsored by Maple Valley Youth Council, teens gathered last Friday night at the Community Center for Yeti-fest. The concert featured the local rock band Vein and Maple Valley’s first Ska band, Touch It. Over $200 was raised to benefit youth programs at the new Teen Center.
On Saturday night, nine bands including Zeek and the Lightning Bolts, Anarchy in a Three-Piece Suit, The Tuxedos, Natalie Murphy, Vein, Bunk Bed, Wifi Brothers, Sarah Pasillas, and Trepid, performed a benefit concert at the Community Center to support STAND for Darfur. Organized by Tahoma High School senior, Kaitlin Geiger, this concert was sponsored by the local Tahoma High School chapter of the Student Anti-Genocide Coalition. STAND is an organization of over 600 high school and college chapters dedicated to putting an end to genocide. Over $700 was raised by last weekend’s concert to support American Jewish World Service efforts to stop genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.
